The 2012 Omran Calendar is inspired by the Palm Tree. Palm trees have been an integral part of Omani life since ancient times. It is the unique palm tree that can be planted in hot and dry climates, they lend their leaves for hand fans, to reduce the heat in the summer and lend their trunks in the winter for fire. Each part of this precious tree is used. In Oman, the fruits are eaten as Ratab (fresh fruit) and dates (dried fruit), the tree fibers are used for ropes and the leaves are used in handcrafts such as baskets or mats. Our land is honored with many blessings and the glorious palm tree is surely one of them.

With assistance from the Agricultual Association of Al Batinah Region Farmers, we were able to compile facts and photos for this calendar about the date palm trees found in Al Batinah Governates. The photographs in this calendar were taken by Ahmed Bin Salim Al-Kindi and Ahmed Mohammed Hamdoon Al Toqi for Omran.
