OMRAN Group and Oman Sail Launch 'Precious Plastic Muscat'
April 22, 2026
Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group), in partnership with Oman Sail and RE-solutions, has launched ‘Precious Plastic Muscat’, marking an important step in supporting the circular economy and advancing environmental awareness and ocean literacy through practical, interactive community engagement.
The lab is one of the outcomes of OMRAN Group’s social investment programme and reflects the Group’s approach to sustainable tourism development by integrating environmental considerations across its projects. It also aligns with Oman Vision 2040 by strengthening environmental awareness, encouraging practical models of sustainable development, and promoting broader community participation in responsible behaviours.
‘Precious Plastic Muscat’ provides an interactive platform that demonstrates how two types of plastic waste (PET and HDPE) can be transformed into reusable products, helping to promote responsible consumption, improve resource efficiency, and reinforce the importance of recycling as a shared community responsibility. It offers educational experiences for school and university students, as well as wider community groups, through interactive workshops and guided demonstrations that introduce participants to plastic types, recycling methods, and the importance of responsible resource management.
In this context, Yusra Majid Al Kindi, Social Investment Specialist at OMRAN Group, said: “Through this initiative, OMRAN Group reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism development and to building partnerships that create local added value. By supporting initiatives that embed circular economy principles within tourism destinations and local communities, we are translating sustainability goals into tangible impact that contributes to strengthening environmental awareness.”
Debbie Richardson, Senior Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Strategist Oman Sail, added: “At Oman Sail, we are committed to delivering programmes that connect community engagement, environmental responsibility, and practical learning, given their significant impact and their lasting value for local communities. The lab creates opportunities for learning, idea-sharing, and building national capabilities, helping young people, students, and wider community groups adopt concepts and behaviours that strengthen their ongoing contribution to enabling the circular economy through everyday practices.”
Beyond its educational role, the programme contributes broader economic and social value through collaboration with the private sector and small and medium enterprises, supporting knowledge transfer, capability building, and wider In-Country Value (ICV) objectives. The initiative also reinforces the importance of cross-sector partnerships in delivering sustainable outcomes through meaningful community participation.
The lab is located at Oman Sail’s headquarters in Al Mouj Muscat, where the initiative will welcome school and university students, along with wider community groups, through structured programmes designed to inspire behavioural change, strengthen environmental understanding, and encourage broader participation in sustainable practices.
