OMRAN Group and Ministry of Education Launch First “Summer Camp” to Introduce Students to Careers in Tourism

As part of its commitment to national talent development and career awareness, Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Career Guidance and Student Counselling, launched the first edition of the “Summer Camp”. The initiative brings together 50 school students in a two-week programme aimed at providing real-world exposure to the tourism sector and introducing them to its dynamic and diverse career paths.

The camp begins at JW Marriott Hotel Muscat and continues with site visits to five of OMRAN Group’s entities, covering various sectors including hospitality and tourism experiences. The programme features interactive workshops, guided tours, and educational activities designed to give students hands-on insights into the tourism industry, while also expanding their understanding of the sector’s professional landscape.

Commenting on the initiative, Maha Al Farsi, HR Business Partner at OMRAN Group, said: “Through this initiative, we aim to provide students with meaningful exposure to the tourism sector and help them better understand its scope and potential. By engaging directly with professionals and experiencing real work environments, they gain early insight that supports their personal growth and helps them make informed decisions about their future. We believe such programmes contribute to building a generation that is more aware, capable, and prepared for the evolving needs of the national workforce.”

Zahran bin Nasser Al-Mughairi, Assistant Director for Studies and Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Education, added:

“This initiative represents a meaningful step in linking education with real-world practice. It supports the Ministry’s efforts to expose students to diverse career paths—especially in promising sectors such as tourism. Such programmes play a vital role in building student confidence, sharpening their skills, and helping them make conscious career choices. Our partnership with OMRAN Group is key to enabling students to explore available specialisations within the tourism sector, enhancing their readiness for the labour market.”

The Summer Camp is part of OMRAN Group’s broader #IAmTourism strategy, which focuses on developing national human capital in the tourism sector. The strategy is built on four key pillars: increasing awareness of tourism career pathways, attracting local talent, supporting long-term retention, and strengthening institutional partnerships. Through these efforts, OMRAN Group continues to contribute to the creation of a dynamic and empowered national workforce ready to shape the future of Oman’s tourism landscape.
