Inspired by the majestic flowing form of Omanās traditional headdress, Al Massar, the buildingās architecture brings together past, present and future as it entwines tributes to our dramatic geography, the role of the sun and moon in the fabric of our culture and society, and the cascade of communication across the airwaves as the Sultanate rises to the challenges of the 21st century.
The design competition for the building was conducted by OMRAN on behalf of Omantel and won by the internationally renowned firm, HDR. The brief was driven by three main elements ā cost-effectiveness and internal layout efficiency as well as a unique approach to design that expressed technical advancements in telecommunications.
